Programs and Services
We provide a unique offering of comprehensive programs, designed to provide a balance of educational and behavioral progress and achievement.
New Visions Academy offers traditional academic courses in grades 6-12 including English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Life Skills, Health, Fine Arts and Physical Education. We also offer classes in four vocational areas: Automotive Technology, Computer Technology, Graphic Communications and Construction Methods.
With 1:6 teacher to student ratios, we believe that highly individualized attention leads to positive outcomes and we measure success on an individual basis. That’s why we assign every student a clinical therapist and follow an Individualized Education Program (IEP), which combines educational, career training, clinical and behavioral management programs. The IEP is jointly developed with input from parents, the student, the local educational agency and New Visions’ multi-disciplinary treatment team, comprised of academic, vocational, clinical and behavioral personnel.
This same team provides continual monitoring and reevaluation of each student’s progress through daily reports and annual reviews of IEPs. Throughout a student’s 12-month program, our staff provides continuous support and encouragement and records their daily performance on a Positive Reinforcement Report (PRR). As students reach personal and academic milestones, they earn progress points which they may use to gain additional responsibilities and privileges.
Additionally, New Visions Academy promotes personal development and enrichment through our clubs, which include gardening, cooking, career boot camp, sewing, fitness, JROTC and our athletic program, where students participate with other schools in the Baltimore, District of Columbia and Virginia areas.
